‘Beni Otake’
Acer palmatum ‘Beni Otake’ Japanese Maple, linearilobum upright tree to 15′. Leaves emerge a medium red color which it will remain well into the summer months. ‘Beni Shi En’
Acer palmatum ‘Beni Shi En’ Japanese Maple. Upright variegated tree, 10′. Leaves emerge a lovely shade of raspberry red early in the season, changing to purple shades as they elongate. Foliage has twisted lobes with a thin cream outline. The brighter, reddish new leaves on top of the bronzed inner foliage gives ‘Beni Shi En’ a ‘red smoke’ look, which is the translation of the name.

Acer palmatum var. dissectum ‘Crimson Queen’ Japanese Maple. Low branching dwarf tree with delicate, laceleaf foliage and a weeping effect. A dissectum red, ‘Crimson Queen’ holds its leaf color well in summer time. Autumn foliage is an assortment of crimson to scarlet red shades. Prefers lightly dappled shade as the leaves may scorch in full sun in our hot Georgia summers. The cascading form makes ‘Crimson Queen’ a best pick for specimen/accent plant. ‘Crimson Queen’ can create a dramatic statement as a single planting or is effective when planted in small groupings for shrub borders. It also may be showcased in large containers on a deck, by an entry way or alongside a walk way.
‘Emerald Lace’
Acer palmatum ‘Emerald Lace’ Japanese maple – 10′-13′. ‘Emerald Lace’ is a threadleaf with a semi-upright form and weeping canopy. This small tree has finely dissected leaves which emerge bright green in spring with red edges. The red color will remain red throughout the season. During summertime, the green shade brightens but retains red highlights. ‘Emerald Lace’ has wonderful fall colors of yellow to orange and finally a fiery red.
‘Hana Matoi’ Weeping
Acer palmatum sissectum ‘Hana Matoi’ Japanese Maple, dwarf weeping. ‘Hana Matoi’ has a mounding form and weeping branches covered in lacy variegated leaves. In early spring the foliage comes out bright red with a hot pink variegation. Later in the season the color will change to a darker red when planted in the sun. In the shade, ‘Hana matoi’ will be more green and display white and pink variegation.
‘Inaba Shidare’ Weeping
Acer palmatum var. dissectum ‘Inaba Shidare’ Dwarf cascading Japanese Maple. Dwarf upright with cascading form 7- 10′. Colorful! Dissectum red laceleaf, cutleaf, or threadleaf. Typically this plant grows in an upright, rounded yet cascading form with low branching. Palmate leaves give a delicate, airy appearance. Foliage features deeply incised lobes which are are cut to the base of the leaf. Known as a laceleaf, cutleaf, or threadleaf Japanese maple, ‘Inaba Shidare’ has large, more intricate leaves which develop a deep red purple tone as they emerge in spring. ‘Inaba Shidare’ retains this brilliant color during the season. Fall color is often spectacular and includes combination of shades in red, yellow, bronze and purple. Shade tolerant, needs afternoon shade.
‘Jeddeloh Orange’ Weeping
Acer palmatum var. dissectum ‘Jeddeloh Orange’ Japanese Maple. Weeping, 7-8′. A laceleaf Japanese maple with spring colors of orange with red highlights. In summer the green and burgundy leaves on ‘Jeddeloh Orange’ develop orange-red margins which contrast beautifully with new red growth. Older growth is emerald green. In fall the lacy foliage changes back to bright orange. ‘Jeddeloh Orange’ forms a small weeping almost umbrella-like shaped mound.
‘Orangeola’ Weeping
Acer palmatum ‘Orangeola’ Japanese Maple. Weeping dwarf, laceleaf, cutleaf or threadleaf. Colorful! One of the fastest growing dissectums yet does not attain height quickly as it is also one of the most pendulous types. A highly attractive cascading laceleaf Japanese Maple with a pendulous form. In early spring the leaves of ‘Orangeola’ emerge in tones of orange and green. As spring progresses the foliage takes on purple color and in summer the older leaves begin to turn green. During the fall ‘Orangeola’ puts on a show of bright orange red foliage. This great plant changes personality all season long. This small tree does extremely well in hotter climates and makes a show stopping specimen in a front yard. ‘Orangeola’ can also be planted in containers.
‘Oregon Fern’ Full Moon
Acer japonicum ‘Oregon Fern’. 8′ Green leaf full moon Japanese maple with a broad, falling canopy for a weeping effect. ‘Oregon Fern’ has lacy, delicate leaves which are green in summer and feature outstanding crimson to purple fall colors. ‘Oregon Fern’ is a great for a unique touch in smaller landscapes.
‘Red Dragon’ Weeping
Acer palmatum ‘Red Dragon’ dissectum Japanese Maple. 7- 8′, a small size which can be perfect for growing in containers. Beautiful, deeply dissected purple leaves with an attractive lacy texture. The deep purple red on ‘Red Dragon’ keeps the wonderful deep color in sun or shade. Newly emerged leaves of this variety are bright scarlet in the spring, changing to dark burgundy as they age. Fall color is bright apple red. ‘Red Dragon’ has a contrasting bright green trunk and bark. It is a favorite of enthusiasts to form as bonsai.
‘Ryusen’ Weeping
Acer palmatum ‘Ryusen’ Japanese Maple, weeping. ‘Ryusen’ has a unique, pendulous form and palmate leaves. In spring the leaves on ‘Ryusen’ emerge bright, chartreuse green. The chartreuse new growth highlights over the deeper green, older growth during summer months. Fall color is bright reds to deep oranges.
‘Spring Delight’
Acer palmatum ‘Spring Delight’ Japanese Maple. Weeping laceleaf, 8-10′. ‘Spring Delight’ has yellow-green spring foliage with highly contrasting red edges. The primary leaf color is green, and the red tips make it an outstanding variety. Fall color is a bright yellow to orange.
‘Tamuke Yama’ Weeping
Acer palmatum ‘Tamukeyama’ Japanese Maple. Weeping dwarf, dissectum red laceleaf, threadleaf, cutleaf. A hardy plant with a strong cascading form. Weeping branches, feathery leaf shape combined with excellent crimson red color make ‘Tamukeyama’ a good choice for a landscape area needing a small specimen. ‘Tamukeyama’ is a beautiful cultivar featuring outstanding color throughout the seasons. In summertime the foliage is a deep purple red and in fall ‘Tamukeyama’ turns a bright scarlet. New growth is a deep crimson red when which soon turns to a deep purple red. Does well in both the heat and humidity of southern gardens. May be formed into a bonsai tree.

While it may be staked and trained to grow taller, Japanese Maple ‘Viridis’ usually grows wider than it is tall.
