Dwarf ‘Cavatine’ Dwarf Pieris
Pieris japonica ‘Cavatine’, dwarf form pieris 3′. Compact, dense broadleaf evergreen shrub. In spring ‘Cavatine’ puts on a lovely display of pinkish buds in clustered, fountain like tassels which open to fragrant white flowers. Dwarf plant forms small evergreen mounds, leaves are a rich glossy green. ‘Cavatine’ blooms somewhat later than those of other Japanese pieris and can extend the pieris blooming season in a garden if other cultivars are planted. ‘Cavatine’ is a good selection as a small accent plant in rock garden, foundation planting or open woodland garden. Shade tolerant.
‘Dodds Crystal Cascade Falls’ Pieris
Pieris japonica ‘Dodds Crystal Cascade Falls’ 6′ – 8′. Broadleaf evergreen shrub, dense upright habit. In early spring, fountain like clusters of dainty, urn shaped white flowers bloom. Foliage is a glossy, rich green. ‘Dodds Crystal Cascade Falls’ is an ideal shrub for foundations and foreground placement in a shrub border or attractive in open woodland areas. May be grown as mass plantings, grouped or as specimens. Shade tolerant.
‘Dodd’s Pearl Falls’
Pieris japonica ‘Dodd’s Pearl Falls’ 6′ – 8′. A tall growing variety, ‘Dodd’s Pearl Falls’ is a valuable plant for an evergreen privacy hedge where you have shade. Heat and humidity tolerant with pendulous, long flower buds which open to white. Prefers well drained soil, does well on woodland edges and at tree lines.
Pieris japonica ‘Katsura’ 4′ – 5′. Compact form, broadleaf evergreen grows in an upright habit. ‘Katsura’ is an eye catching shrub in a landscape with large glossy, deep red foliage that ages to green. The attractive color of new growth tips create a wonderful contrast in any garden. In late spring, pretty rose colored flowers emerge over green foliage. ‘Katsura’ may be grown as specimen plantings, grouped , in an open woodland garden or as a foundation plant. Shade loving shrub.
Pieris japonica ‘Prelude’ 2 1/2′ – 3′. A useful dwarf evergreen cultivar which flowers later than other varieties. Delicate clusters of pure white blooms on short stalks appear above rich, dark green leaves. Full to partial shade. New foliage emerges featuring a slight a pinkish tint. The small size of ‘Prelude’ make it a handy plant as an accent in a perennial garden or as a front of the border plant.
Pieris japonica ‘Snow Drift’ 3′ – 5′. Lily of the Valley bush. Evergreen shrub with pure white flowers on long panicles. ‘Snow Drift’ has a dense habit and produces reddish new growth which will later turn to dark green. The flowers will last and remain on the bush for an extended period. Like other pieris, ‘Snow Drift’ is shade tolerant.
