NATIVE! Magnolia grandiflora Southern Magnolia 'Bracken's Brown Beauty'. A more compact southern magnolia for small landscapes, pyramidal growing habit with an oval crown. 'Bracken's Brown Beauty' has the oblong, leathery textured leaves that Southern Magnolia is known for. Foliage is glossy, dark green on top with a cinnamon brown underside. In the spring and 'Bracken's Brown Beauty' produces large, creamy white, fragrant saucer shaped flowers. Primary bloom is in late spring with sporadic blooming throughout the summer. A useful landscape plant as a tall, dense privacy screen, specimens or back of a border tree.

NATIVE! Magnolia grandiflora Southern Magnolia 'D.D. Blanchard'. Large, glossy evergreen leaves with rusty orange brown undersides, lighter than other southern magnolia cultivars. 'D.D. Blanchard' is an evergreen tree with a compact, pyramidal growth habit. Flowers are creamy white, very fragrant and globe shaped. 'D.D. Blanchard' may be used in a landscape as a tall, dense privacy screen, specimens or back of a border tree.

Magnolia x Japanese magnolia 'Jane'. Hardy shrub or small tree, 'Jane' is a member of the 'Little Girl' series of Magnolias. Blooms in late spring to avoid frost damage. Flowers appear before the foliage and are showy a reddish purple color on the outside with a tint of white on the inside. Blooms are large and tulip shape with a light fragrance. Foliage is deep green with a slight leathery appearance. 'Jane' is a great pick as an accent shrub, small specimen tree or or mixed garden.

NATIVE! Magnolia grandiflora Dwarf Southern Magnolia 'Little Gem'. Evergreen tree with pyramidal shape and smaller, dark green foliage with a rusty brown underside. 'Little Gem' has a very compact narrow form, making it useful for smaller gardens. It blooms at a very young age with primary bloom is in late spring then sporadic blooming throughout the summer. Large white flowers are fragrant and showy. 'Little Gem' is a popular choice for Georgia gardens.

NATIVE! Magnolia virginiana sweetbay, swampbay, or swamp magnolia. Medium to fast growing. Evergreen to semi-evergreen, medium green leaves have silver underside which has a frosted appearance. The foliage of Sweetbay is a lighter green than Southern Magnolia cultivars. The bright scarlet red seeded fruit which ripens in late summer attractive to birds. Large flowers of Sweetbay are creamy white and very fragrant with a light lemony scent.

Magnolia stellata Star Magnolia 'Royal Star'. May be grown in shrub form in a large, oval shape or as a small tree with a spreading, rounded crown. 'Royal Star' is very showy in bloom. In early spring, fragrant flowers appear before the foliage. The blossoms are star like, double white and have a slight pink tint. In late summer 'Royal Star' produces seeds in greenish pods which split open during fall.
